OVERVIEW

NIEIT has always believed in balancing tradition and modernity, staying rooted yet embracing the advantages of modern technology. Every aspect of the college and its infrastructure has been designed with this vision in mind – to be a world-class learning resource centre in the area of Engineering Education and Research. The Library facility has been developed and upgraded over the years to reflect this vision.

Over 20865 books, seating capacity for 100 people, E-Learning Centre, reference and regional language books section, OPAC Search facility, subject books, journals, integrated databases, CDs/DVDs, e-books, e-journals, reports, reference question papers, bound volumes, project reports – the NIEIT college library has a vast collection of resources at the student’s disposal. Students can also access external resources through DELNET and VTU Consortium to which the college has a membership.

Open Access System:  The NIEIT library has an Open Access System through which students can select books of their choice.

Circulation Service:

  • General books are issued to all eligible members as per their privileges.
  • Loss of library books should be reported to the librarian immediately. An overdue fine will be collected until the book is replaced or returned.
  • A book can be renewed only twice at the most.
  • The borrowing facility will be withdrawn or restricted in case of misbehaviour in the library and misuse of library books.
  • The  library member (staff or student) should check the condition of books being borrowed. If the books are found to be damaged, mutilated or ruined while they are being returned,  the borrower must replace the same with a new book.
  • Books will be renewed if there are no reservations against them.

Students can check out new books in the new arrivals rack.

Inter-Library Loan

The library offers inter-library loan service to its users for books that are unavailable in the NIEIT library by procuring them from the Developing Library Network (DELNET), New Delhi. The NIEIT library also lends its resources to libraries of other academic institutions.

Reference Service

The library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of dictionaries, directories, and handbooks. Reference books are marked ‘R‘ for easy identification. The Reference section facility is extended to students, staff and faculty of the institute from 9.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days. Readers may approach the Reference Desk for information or any assistance in using the Library Collections and Services.

On-line Public Access Catalogue

The Online Public Access Catalogue enables access to bibliographic records available in the library.

Reprographic Service

The library offers photocopying service to all its members from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm on weekdays through the private photocopying vendor operating at Shankaracharya Bhavan within the college premises.

RULES & REGULATIONS     

  1. How to Become a Member:

All the students, teaching, and non-teaching staff members of the NIEIT are entitled to become the members of the library. Membership/Borrowers card is issued from the Library by producing their college admission fee receipt.

  1. Lending of Books: 
  • All the students are privileged for four books under circulation. Sub-lending books is misuse of the privilege and may lead to the withdrawal of membership. Reference books, rare books, theses, dissertations, periodicals and bound volumes and such other reading materials as are marked for Reference within the library shall not be issued out for loan.
  • The Students are not allowed to borrow books on another student card.
  • A document may be recalled before the due date if required urgently in the Library. Failure to respond promptly may lead to suspension of library privileges.
  • Borrower is requested to check if the documents being borrowed are complete and no pages are missing in it. In case of defect or damage in the book, should be brought to the notice of the library staff before leaving the issue section. If found any damage/pen mark while returning the book, the user should substitute with a new book.
  • Students are required to handle books and reading material very carefully. Marking library books with pencil or ink, tearing the pages or spoiling the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously. In such case, the last reader will be held responsible unless, he/she brings to the notice of the librarian before the issue or use. In the event of damage of any kind, the last reader will be liable to compensate for the damage. Books will have to be replaced.
  • No books will be issued during stock verification; this is done to undertake library audit during vacation.
  • If a student is found with any overdue books, then no books will be issued without its clearance.
  • Books having same title & author will not be issued to the same person at the same time.
  • Absence from the college will not be an excuse for the delay in the return of the books.
  1.   Duration of Loan & Overdue Charges:
  • Books are borrowed for 15 days. Before getting a book issued, the borrower must satisfy himself/herself about the condition of the book, otherwise he/she will be held responsible for any damage.
  • You are expected to return the borrowed book(s) on or before the due date, otherwise a fine of 1/- per book per day will have to be paid from 16th to 22nd day and Rs.2/-per day after 23rd day will be charged till the return of books.
  1. Renewal of Books:

If the same book is available in the Library, the book may be renewed. A document issued may be renewed if there is no reservation against it. For renewals, books have to be presented physically to the library. If renewed for second time or more discretion of recalling it back is of Librarian in case of need. The Librarian reserves the right to reissue or recall an issued book at any time.

  1. Loss of Book (s):

 Loss of books, if any, shall be reported to the librarian immediately and another good copy of the latest edition shall replace it immediately, in addition to overdue charges if any. In case book being out of print, it is the responsibility to replace it (preferred) or pay 2 times the cost of book. You are responsible for the books borrowed on your library account/card.  Neither books nor membership-card be lent to another person.

 

  1.  News Papers and Periodicals:
  • News Papers and Periodical Publications are not lent out for home use. These are to be read in the Library premises only. Any person found guilty of tearing or spoiling the pages of the periodicals/books, the double cost will be recovered and ceased the library membership.
  • The newspaper(s) should be folded properly after reading and kept back in the designated place.
  1. Reference, Rare Books & question papers.

 Certain documents are intended to be used only inside the library premises. These Includes Project Reports, reference books, rare books, journals & bound periodicals etc. Previous Years Question Papers, Syllabus, Periodicals, Reference books will be issued for Photostat only for 60 minutes/1 hour.

  1. No due Certificate:

Each student shall obtain No dues certificate from the library after returning all the   books issued, surrendering the borrower’s cards and after paying outstanding dues, if any.

  1. Privileges and Discipline:
  • Readers should be in possession of his/her Identity card before entering the Library.
  • Before entering the library, Readers should sign in the visitor’s register placed at the main entrance.
  • The students are not allowed to take the personal belongings inside the library. They are advised to use the counter of security.
  • The valuable things like money purse, calculator, and mobile should not deposit in the baggage counter. The Library does not accept any liability for loss or damage to personal property on its premises.
  • Membership is mandatory for the students in order to avail the facilities of the library. 
  • The students should maintain discipline in the library. Eatables, discussion in groups & mapping is not allowed.
  • The students should cooperate with the library staff for the smooth functioning of the library. 
  • Library users may be dropped suggestions in the suggestion box to improve the library service quality.

10 .  Library Ethics for Users:

  • The entire atmosphere in the Library should remain calm and quiet. Silence should strictly observe in the library.
  • Your movements while looking up for a book on the shelves or while pulling a chair for sitting should not disturb the other readers.
  • While leaving, you are requested to rise gently and replace your chair quickly.
  • Be courteous to Library staffs who are your guides.
  • If you wish to consult some library official, please go to him quietly and whisper your demand.
  • Don’t throw the pieces of papers here and there. Keep the Library neat and clean.
  • Readers are expected to read notices issued by the Librarian from time to time. No excuse will be entertained for ignorance of any information notified earlier.
  • Smoking, sleeping and using mobile is strictly prohibited.
  • Readers shall vacate their seats ten minutes before the closure of the library.
  • All cases of misbehaviour will be enquired into by the disciplinary committee, Violations of any of the above and the other rules are punishable.
  • The library rules and regulations shall be modified from time to time.
  • The librarian is authorized to withdraw the library facilities, if the rules are not adhering to.

 

  1. Library OPAC:
  • The Users have been providing the computer facility in library only for browsing library materials using Libsoft (Web OPAC Search), E-journals and other digital resources. Any use, other than this, is prohibited.
  • All the users have to check the availability of the books/return or transactions updated of the books through web OPAC search facility, before reaching the library counter to avoid wasting of time and building queue.

DELNET :Library is a member of Developing Library Network (DELNET), New Delhi, Which provides services like browsing of Union catalogue and databases, Union catalogue of books, Union list of current periodicals, Theses and dissertations profile of member libraries, Inter Library Loan, Documents Delivery Services. Interested readers can access the catalogues of other Libraries through DELNET and request the required books/ journals to be procured from these libraries on loan for a limited period.

NIEIT has subscribed to various electronic journal databases through VTU Consortium covering all subjects taught in the college. The journal databases are hyperlinked to the website of the Library. All the subscribed databases are made available throughout the campus in the local network one can access the content without a password and remote access is also provided using the Knimbus database.

An online public access catalog (often abbreviated as OPAC or simply library catalog) is an online database of materials held by a library. Users search a library catalog to locate books and other materials available at a library. OPAC is an important tool for web resources. Therefore, the NIEIT Library started OPAC facility to its clientele.

  • OPAC provides the access to the NIEIT Library database.
  • OPAC allows the users to know the library collection and the status of the Library Resources & Number of copies available in library.
  • Search facility: By specifying Author, Title, subject, publisher, edition, accession number or any other field.
  • User can access NIEIT OPAC from any computer connected to the NIEIT- LAN

A digital library is a managed collection of information, with associated services, where the information is stored in digital formats and accessible over a network. Central Library is a part of the institute-wide network. The library has 10 computers and other accessories adequate to cater to the needs of users & are meant for users to access OPAC, databases, e-books, e-journals and other e-resources. The Central library has been Wi-Fi enabled to provide wireless access to the Internet. Users are welcome to use their laptops in the library.

DELNET, a network of 1000 institutions with access to more than 60 lakh records through online systems  is considered as a big leap towards the modernization of libraries in India. DELNET has been actively engaged in the compilation of various union catalogues of the resources available with member libraries and has already created the union catalogue of books, current periodicals, and a CD ROM database. It provides a range of services including e-mail access to its member libraries including institutional and associate institutional members.

The NIEIT Library has a membership with DELNET (New Delhi) to facilitate the efficient search of information through various online databases and union catalogues. DELNET delivers individual books as and when required by member libraries as well as photocopies of articles published within and outside India through the Inter-library Loan/Document Delivery Services.
